CONFERENCE FUTURE of SURFACE MINING

Welcome to Freiberg! Welcome to the “Future of Surface Mining” conference!

Freiberg is embedded in the unique cultural landscape of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Erzgebirge/ Krušnohoři mining region” and is characterized by an attractive medieval city center. The city owes its founding and fame to silver mining from the 12th century onwards. The Technical University of Bergakademie Freiberg was founded here in 1765 as the world's first university for mining and metallurgy, which still exists today, and has further developed its profile to include a broader spectrum of geo/materials, energy and environmental sciences.

Based on this tradition, it is an honor and pleasure for us to invite you to the “Future of Surface Mining” conference in 2025. The focus of the conference is on the challenges of our time - digitalization, robotics/AI, economic optimization, ecological and social requirements, public acceptance/recruiting young talent, modern training, research/development and internationalization. The conference brings together leading international scientists, representatives of the mining and mining machinery industry, government administration and special services and consulting companies. The conference offers plenary and thematic sections, panel discussions, workshops, excursions and a cultural framework as well as space for exchange and networking.
